Spring 2010

Coaches,

We are once again ready to start our successful goalkeeper training program, and I want to make you aware of a couple of changes. One sad, but the rest very, very positive.

One of our trainers, Vanessa Bosshart-Phillips - "V" will not be working with us this spring. V is has returned home to Connecticut to train in preparation to playing in Europe. We'll certainly miss V and the fantastic job she's done with our program. We are extremely pleased to announce that we have added another trainer to our staff. Ian Levine joins our staff after a playing career at First Coast, Fletcher High School and Embry Riddle University. He's also served as a keeper trainer at Spring Hill College in Alabama. Ian will be working with both our Academy as well as our Kyx keepers.

Returning this season to work with the Kyx keepers is Chris Petrie. Chris played his Club ball in Virginia where is was a state ODP selection; He played his college soccer at Jacksonville University. The Kyx keepers really like the intensity Chris brought to their training last season.

In order to afford every Kyx keeper a chance to work with these two talented trainers, we've modified our schedule for the spring. Goalkeeper training will be available to Kyx goalkeepers each Wednesday and Thursday from 5:30-7:00 beginning immediately and continuing through the spring season. Please let your keepers know. For now, plan on training being in the Keeper Korner over by field 5.

Please make every opportunity for your keepers to work with these talented trainers, there is no better goalkeeping program around.

Regards,

Cicchino

Keeper Training

First Coast Soccer Association offers its goalkeepers the very best in position specific training in North Florida. Weekly training
sessions are held throughout both the fall and spring seasons. Sessions are segmented by age in order to allow the training program to be tailored to each goalkeeper’s needs and to maximize development of all of our goalkeepers.

  • First Coast Academy goalkeepers participate in a curriculum heavy in fundamentals and competitive games designed to build the foundation for future success at the advanced KYX level.
  • The KYX U13-15 goalkeepers receive rigorous physical and technically demanding training designed to prepare them for the position’s demands at the U16-18 Showcase years.
  • And finally, in addition to technical training sessions, the senior KYX goalkeepers train intensively on the mental aspect of the game - how to visualize and read the game to best support their team as the 11th soccer player and not merely a shot stopper.

The First Coast Goalkeeper program is under the direction of John Cicchino, former Georgia Tech goalkeeper and ODP player and coach.  His training staff includes Vanessa Phillips-Bosshart, current UNF women’s goalkeeper trainer and University of Tennessee standout, Chris Petrie former Jacksonville University men’s goalkeeper and Virginia ODP goalkeeper, and Brooker Blanton, a talented young trainer who is a product of the Kyx program and the Florida ODP system.  These talented individuals are here to ensure your goalkeeper receives the very best training available in North Florida, and that their development is viewed as a process and not just a series of unrelated events.
