Academy Overview & Questions

General Overview

The academy model has received great praise as the “cutting edge” for player development. First Coast Soccer was the FIRST club in Jacksonville to adopt the academy model of training.

The academy program provides the following –

- positive environment

- age-appropriate technical training

- age-appropriate tactical training

- positive coaching

- appropriate level of competition

- opportunities for free play, fitness, speed & agility training

Specifics

Academy is divided into 2 areas – developmental academy (U6-U10) and travel academy (U9-U12).

Developmental academy – for players aged 5-10. Training is twice a week at Patton Park. The focus is on skill development and developing confidence with the ball. Players register for fall and/or spring seasons.

Travel academy – for players aged U9- U12. Players try out in May for travel teams. Training is twice a week with focus on skills and appropriate tactical development in a team environment. Players commit to the program for 1 year.

First Coast Soccer has 3-4 tiered teams in each age group for boys and girls aged U9-U12 (blue, white, red, black) as well as developmental teams in the U9,10 age groups.

There may be opportunities mid-season to be placed on a travel team if there is an opening – contact the Director of Coaching – suehof@comcast.net
